Kiosk printing is an optional setting that can be configured in your browser on both Windows and Mac. It instructs your browser to send print commands directly to the last-used printer without any interaction from the user. This feature is supported by both Firefox and Google Chrome.
It is important to note that while this configuration is important for our self-service badge printing, the browser will look and behave normally except the print dialog is skipped when the browser is told to print something.
Firefox Setup (Windows and Mac )
Step 1: Open Configuration Editor
In the address bar, type about:config and press Enter.
On the next screen, click the Accept the Risk and Continue button.
Step 2: Set the Printing Preference
In the configuration editor, enter the phrase print.always_print_silent. This preference has a default value of false. Click the toggle button on the far right of the screen to change the setting to true.
Google Chrome Setup (Windows )
Step 1: Create a Shortcut
In the top-right corner of Google Chrome, click the Settings button. In the dropdown, select Save and Share then click Create shortcut.... This will create a shortcut to the current webpage on your desktop.
Step 2: Open Shortcut Properties
Find the newly-created shortcut on your desktop. Right-click on it and select Properties.
Step 3: Edit Target
In the properties window, jump to the end of the Target field and add --kiosk --kiosk-printing.
Click the OK button. After setting the properties, any time you open Google Chrome using this shortcut, any print commands will print without user interactions. If you use another shortcut to open Google Chrome, however, printing will behave normally.
Google Chrome Setup (Mac )
Step 1: Quit Google Chrome
If Chrome is currently open, quit the app (Command + Q on your keyboard).
Step 2: Launch Google Chrome Using the Terminal
Open the Terminal App.
In the terminal enter /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --kiosk-printing and press Enter.
Mobile Devices
Unfortunately, at this point no mobile devices support kiosk-mode printing. This feature is only available on desktop or laptop computers.
